Community Connections in Action
To celebrate 2024 International Women’s Day, two of our students were invited by Alder building group to the ‘Awesome Women in Construction’ (AWIC) Event.
Alder Group were responsible for the K Block build and refreshed and renovated a large number of spaces in our school and were also generous with their support in hosting the 'Try a Trade day' in 2023 and supporting our senior students with work experience opportunities.
Year 12 school leaders and current construction and trade TAFE students, Crystal (Laver House Captain) and Depazzy (Cultural Captain), represented our school community in a positive way. The students had identified their pathways early on in their senior schooling journey, and we have been able to identify and connect them with training opportunities and at the Alder event, the girls networked with construction representatives and big business. The relationship built between Alder Constructions and Bracken Ridge State High School is valued, and has resulted in future opportunities our students can engage in.
Did you know that 16% of the construction industry is female? We can’t wait to see that number grow with the addition of strong, brave young women like Crystal and Depazzy and if your daughter is keen to investigate a career pathway in the trades, the AWIC is an fantastic resource https://awic.org.au/ to start these discussions.
