Japanese is the
language used by the Japanese for education, business and media
communications. In our global community
there are many benefits to learning a second language. At Bracken Ridge State High School we have a
dynamic and engaging Japanese program. Students use three scripts for writing: hiragana, the
basic phonetic script representing the sounds of Japanese; katakana, the
companion phonetic script that is largely used for loan words; and kanji,
Chinese characters that represent meaning rather than sound (ideographs).
Classes are run from Year 7 through to Year 12 where students are exposed to
four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
The
school has a dedicated language laboratory and from the moment you enter the
room you are immersed in the culture and language of Japan. In addition, yearly
visits from our sister-school Ohtori High School, provide students with further
opportunities to develop their language skills. Bi-yearly international tours
of Japan also enrich the program of study for those interested students.
