Our school based youth health nurse plays an important role in every student's high school life. We recently welcomed SBYHN Jill into the BRSHS family and Jill is looking forward to meeting and supporting many of our students.
Our SBYHN is employed by Children's Health Qld and work in partnership with the school to promote the health and wellbeing of students.
Our SBYHN is one of the many support people in the school and is at Bracken Ridge State High School on Mondays and Wednesdays, located in the wellbeing hub/GP room in the admin block.
What does a SBYHN do?
- Individual consultations with students
- Referral to appropriate organisations if required,
- Classroom health education
- Health promotion activities
- Young Women's Groups
- A resource for staff, students, and their families
We do not provide first aid or give injections.
Reasons for referral/attendance
- Mental health concerns
- General health issues,
- Relationships, (personal, friends and family issues)
- Growth and development,
- Sexual health
- Alcohol and other drugs
Students can be referred by DoE staff, parents or they can self-refer.

Please make sure that when referring a young person to this service they have provided you with verbal consent to do so as this is a voluntary service.
